2015-16 Kindergarten Information

posted Mar 11, 2015, 8:47 AM by Jon Wollmuth
Sherwood School District is excited to offer a full day, tuition-free, kindergarten program for the 2015-2016 school year.  Kindergarten students will start the day along with their 1st-5th grade peers, and will experience a complete school day, including: literacy, mathematics, social studies and science instruction.  They will have daily opportunities for music, physical education, and library/media.  Families wishing to participate in a shorter school day will have an option to exercise that choice, with a consistent early pick-up option.  Mid-day transportation will not be provided by the district.

Planning for Sherwood’s full day kindergarten programming has been ongoing throughout a two year process, which featured a collaborative team of highly regarded veteran kindergarten teachers.  This “Kindergarten Advisory Team” continues to plan for the launch of a developmentally appropriate, research-based program of inquiry and learning.

Parents of new kindergartners and their students are encouraged to attend “Kindergarten Round-Up” activities at each of the four elementary schools on May 20, 2015.
