Important -- District Plan for Making Up Inclement Weather Days: Please see a memo linked here sent from Superintendent Heather Cordie to families and the community today, which details how the District is planning to make up instructional hours for students in Sherwood Schools. The Board of Directors approved the proposed plan on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at the regular Board meeting. A revised 2016-17 District Calendar reflecting these changes is attached to the memo, or can be viewed at the calendar link here.
The winter weather has hit hard in the Portland area during the December and January months. Sherwood has experienced a number of inches of snow, some freezing rain and record cold temperatures. This has caused the Sherwood District schools to be closed seven days, so far, this school year. Although the kids are loving the fun in the snow, it has left the SSD staff and parents wondering how this will affect the 2016-2017 school calendar. We will keep you up to date on any calendar changes that may occur.
The Sherwood School District resumed classes on Wednesday, January 4th. Students and staff came back ready to dive into learning and teaching!
Archer Glen welcomed new students in December and January. We are excited to have these students and families join our AG community.
As our principal, Mr. Smith. said in his weekly message "Here’s to 2017 and all the promise that it holds."
The Sherwood School District Winter Break came early this year with snow starting on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 14th. Students had been released at 12:15 pm for Early Release, teacher and staff Collaborative Learning Time, which helped to get students home before the roads were snowy and icy. Schools were closed Thursday and Friday due to treacherous road conditions.
School will resume for teachers on Tuesday, January 3rd and for students and all staff on Wednesday, January 4th.
Thank you to the many participants at Archer Glen who picked up tags gave gifts to needy children in the Sherwood. We had an overwhelming response to the need this year. The Sherwood community is so caring and giving. We appreciate all of our parents and families.
If you are interested in giving to Sherwood 4 Kids Sake you can stop in at Mudpuddles located in the shopping center by the Sherwood Post Office.
Sherwood School District teachers will have a Work Day on Monday, December 5th to work on student grading. There will be no school for students. Progress reports for elementary students will be sent home on Monday, December 12th.
Picture retake day is Tuesday, November 8th on the Stage from 8:10 - 10;30 am. Picture packets can be picked up in the office for those who missed Picture Day. Please send your unwanted pictures in with your student for those who want retakes. Be sure to keep the group picture, since that will not be reprinted.
The Archer Glen Picture Day is Friday, October 7th. Picture packets went home in Friday folders on 9/30/16. Extra packets are available in the school office.
We had wonderful weather for our Archer Glen Fun Run. The kids had a great time getting out in the sunshine and enjoyed running and walking together as a class. There were a lot of smiles and cheers as family members and kids encouraged each other. Thanks to the Fun Run Crew for all the hard work and effort put into this event.
